I have retired 100% of my material with the goal of creating a new headline act during the 2012 calendar year. An ambitious goal! Here we are in March already and I have another few weeks before I get back into the clubs with the new stuff I’ve been working out around Toronto. There is so much work to be done. Please stay tuned for show dates and come check out what I’ve been working on later this spring! pa

Nikki and I rolled into Pictou County yesterday afternoon. The show at Glasgow Square Theatre was totally sold out, but people kept calling our families trying to squeeze in. The Square told me we could have sold out 2 shows, but that couldn’t have happened anyhow because Nikki’s voice is kaput. She stayed quiet all day yesterday and saved her voice for the show, which was great! And she received her THIRD standing ovation of the tour. I had the best set I’ve had on the tour thus far as well. When I’m back here in Pictou County I’m able to do some local-based material that really connects well with the crowd. Our video “Ex-East Coast Entertainer Zombies” had the best reaction we’ve had so far (watch for it after the tour on Youtube.) Thanks to the great staff at Glasgow Square and to the sold out crowd on our home turf!

On Thursday, we woke up early to host EAST COAST FM with Ann and Gene. Nikki took over the weather forecast, we talked about Moms and during the show we were informed the show in New Glasgow on Friday night has been sold out! We did have 2 tickets to give away, though, so we decided that only a real fan should get them. We told listeners that whoever delivered underwear to the station would get the tickets. Not 10 minutes later a woman was running down Provost Street in New Glasgow in her pajamas with a pair of Spanx in her hand. Nikki met with her and gave her the tickets. Fun times! Thanks for Ann and Gene for letting us take over their morning show. It was a blast.

After the radio show, we jumped into the Budget-mobile and headed for Sydney. We arrived at the Membertou Convention Center to find out we were SOLD OUT here as well! The crowd in Sydney rocked and we had another amazing show. I had a great set. Nikki rocked her set, too, and a fan even came up to the stage and bit her tit during the show (you had to be there). Emillio Estevez made his first appearance on stage with us as well. What a great night in Cape Breton.

The Marigold Center in Truro, Nova Scotia was once an old movie theatre that no doubt showed movies like Back to the Future 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and AssJammers 1 through 4 (not sure about 3, though). But last night the Marigold turned into a comedy house to host the 2010 Bluenosers Comedy Tour and we sold the joint out. I did some jokes about how Truro is “the best place to stop and pee in Nova Scotia when you’re on your way to some place better” that went over mildly okay. The rest of my set went a lot better though and I once again learned the old lesson not to open with an insult. It didn’t take long for the crowd to get warmed up, though, and I had a fun set. Nikki rocked the place. The shows have been consistently among some of the best I’ve been a part of. Today we are co-hosting the morning radio show “Wake Up” on East Coast FM. I’m up a little early to work on a few jokes for the broadcast. My mom pleaded with me last night not to “be dirty” but I am making no promises. I just wrote a cock-joke that’s going to go over huge! After that, we jump into our luxurious van (thanks Budget!) and head for Sydney, Cape Breton. It’s a working man, I am.

We had our one and only university show on the tour last night. The students, some faculty and even a man who “wandered in off the street” packed into Vinnie’s Pub at Mt. Saint Vincent University for a show we put on for the Mount/NSCC. Nikki and I were lead into the “green room” which was basically the university food resource center, where poor students can go get cans of soup and Chef Boyardee microwavable ravioli. So, we sat and waited as the room filled up and hit the stage to a thunderous welcome. I had a really fun set. It’s amazing how after a few nights of performing the jokes get tighter and tighter. I feel great on stage and am having more fun than anybody in the room, of that I can guarantee. Nikki absolutely killed again. The girl is a force. Towards the end of the set I could hear her voice starting to give a little, which does worry me. She puts so much emotion into her performances. It’s a pleasure to watch. I need to feed her tea and honey for the next few days so that her voice holds up. Mine is fine. But I did bang my ankle on the side of the stage in Moncton so I’m performing through the pain, like an NHLer en route to the cup. If comedy were playoffs, we’d be in the 2nd round now, sweeping the competition into an embarrassing loss. Don’t fuck with us. It’s our cup. It’s our cup. Truro is next. And from what I hear, this one is sold out too!

Sold out in Moncton! You couldn’t fit one more body into the old Yuk Yuks room at the Crowne Plaza last nite. The Bluenosers Comedy Tour rocked the house to a delighted crowd that gave Nikki ANOTHER standing ovation. What a nite! We had a special guest, too. Moncton comedian Neal Mundle dropped a great set. Despite some hang-ups setting up the room, including the need to duct-tape a spotlight to the wall, everything went off without a hitch. The Crowne Plaza also has a saltwater pool, a great hot tub and an amazing steam room that I took full advantage of this morning. I couldn’t help but laugh when I recalled that a few years ago comedian Mark Walker and I were here on tour and wrote a KISS-inspired song entitled “Steam Room!” Sometimes the road can be a strange place! So far, really fun times! I had the pleasure of meeting Nikki’s brother, sister-in-law and her niece Jessica, too, all of whom helped us immensely yesterday. So a special thanks to them! Off to Nova Scotia today! Steam Room!

A special guest dropped by, Francois Weber, who I introduced right after the intermission and he blew the roof off the place. A very funny man. Then, Nikki went up and ripped it, as usual. Good lord she’s funny. A big thanks to the great staff at the Harbourfront Theatre – such a great facility and a ton of fun to play. I also want to add that the weather down here has been amazing since we arrived. It’s another beautiful day and we’re packing up and heading to Moncton for tonite’s show.

Saint John, to put it mildly, rocked! Nikki and I had 500-plus New Brunswickers (New Brunswickians? New Brunswickites?) in the crowd at the most beautiful theatre I have ever laid eyes on. The Imperial Theatre is, hands down, every performers dream to play. The staff at both our hotel and the theatre has me thinking that the folks in Saint John could very well be the nicest people on the planet. So, clearly, Nikki and I were both in a great mood and we gave it our all to open the tour. I dropped 30 minutes of my best stuff and after a brief intermission, Nikki laid down a phenomenal set that resulted in a standing ovation! What a way to kick off the tour. Afterwards, I had the chance to catch up with my good buddy Shane Ogden, who was recently named “New Brunswick’s Funniest Person!” Take that, Jimmy the Janitor! Okay, time to make tracks for the land of red mud, potatoes, Anne of Green Gables and glass pop bottles: Prince Edward Island!

Porter Airlines is a 10-minute walk from my place in Toronto. How many people can walk to their flight? Am I the only one? Well, I guess in theory I could have but I felt lazy… so I got a cab. 4 minutes and $9 later (Toronto cabs are a rip-off) I was at the Billy Bishop airport (named after a great grapple-wrestler from the 1950s, I think). Porter rocks. You can load up on snacks and stuff in the waiting lounge, surf on a Mac or do what I do: stare at people. After a solid 30 minutes of creeping people the eff out, I was on my plane and off to Halifax. I watched “The Social Network” on the plane (which was, by the way, the perfect length for the flight). I was underwhelmed, if that’s a word. (Shout-out to Sloan fans!) This movie is overrated. As the credits rolled we were asked to put up our trays and such and we were ready to land in Halifax. Sweet! I picked up the van from Budget (our official sponsor!)) just 10 minutes before they closed up shop (phew!) and zoomed into Halifax. I did a quick lap downtown to check out some old haunts, all of which were dead. The entire downtown core seemed dead – at least compared to when I used to live here. I’m not sure where everybody is. Spring Garden Road was as dead as disco. How sad! Maybe the strong chill in the air kept everybody home. I really should have brought my winter jacket.
Tomorrow I take off for Saint John to meet up with Nikki (along with Emillio Estevez) and officially begin the 2010 Bluenosers Comedy Tour. Stay tuned for updates. I realize after reading this update you may be underwhelmed, if that’s a word, but c’mon – the tour starts tomorrow!!!
